The automotive industry is characterized by rapid developments. Regulatory requirements to reduce CO2 emissions in particular have led to extensive research in the areas of lightweight construction, the use of new materials and alternative drive concepts. Lightweight construction especially has caused high-strength steels, aluminum and magnesium materials and fiber-reinforced plastics to become well established in the automotive industry. Nordmetall GmbH always keeps abreast of technology and uses high-precision, state-of-the-art measurement technology to determine material characteristics from quasi-static to dynamic-impact (crash) loading. This means we can characterize not only all steel/cast types, aluminum alloys and magnesium materials, but also special materials such as titanium alloys, tungsten heavy alloys and all composite materials across a broad spectrum of stresses. Aside from materials, we also work with you to characterize all manner of joints such as welded, bonded, screwed and riveted joints. Our range of tests also includes:

  • Material characterization in a strain-rate range between 10-3 s–1 and approx. 5000 s–1 (>10,000 s–1 for compressive) and a temperature range between –196°C and 1200°C
